DIY Magnets/ Chalk Board Fridge

Okay so half of my post literally just disappeared and pictures vanished into the blogosphere…. sad face. So here it goes again with less sarcasm… because I can’t remember what I just typed.

This is my last DIY of the year guys! You’re probably thinking that poor young adult all she does is hoard glitter and do crafts with her invisible cats all day… well ding ding ding! You’re not too far off! Below is what you will need to give your fridge that cutsey make over it’s probably yearning for.

IMG_9392

Materials:

Magnets (I took some old ones off the fridge that I was sick of looking at… don’t worry I changed my mind last minute and let the owl live…for now- no owl deserves hot glue to the face)
Faux Flowers (one is a favorite headband of mine that broke. Triste)
Hot glue gun & hot glue moooo.

IMG_9393

You can also make magnets with newspaper and magazine clippings. A few clear pebbles from the dollar store some plain circular magnets and voila! Hot glue is my best friend.

IMG_9397

I bought this chalkboard paper from amazon a few months ago, by a few I mean five and by five I mean like wayyy before I even moved into this apartment. I finally put it up. Sometimes it takes me a while to get started but when I start I just can’t stop, hence the past week filled with ONLY DIY’s I had so many I wanted to share with you guys! Taking a break now.

Song break:
Cause you can’t stop
The motion of the ocean
Or the sun in the sky
You can wonder if you wanna
But I never ask why
And if you try to hold me down
I’m gonna spit in your eye and say
That you can’t stop the crafting!

Not just a song break, I’m literally taking a break from crafting… until February…probably.

IMG_9498

Now you can see where my real priorities lie. This is my actual grogery list… I  draw pictures because sometimes I forget how to read. I would have erased this before posting buuuuuut then it would have left ugly chalk streaks and then I would have to wet a towel and dry it and blah blah blah we all know I’m lazy when it comes to doing… stuff!

As if my fridge didn’t already hate me from constanly opening and closing it…I wouldn’t be surprised if one day it opened my bedroom door stared at me left… then came back 5 minutes later.

Apartment Update: Winter/Christmas Decor

So you guys have seen my den converted walk in closet, my bathroom annnd now you get to see bits and pieces of my apartment! I haven’t perfected my bedroom yet aka I haven’t bought my mirrored dresser  sooo it might be a while before I make one. I was actually really excited to make this video because you get to see some of my DIY’s in action, when I was younger I used to make a bunch of stuff and stash it….like a chipmunk, now I’m pleased that I can actually make things that are sturdy enough to be viewed year round!

IMG_2084

Have you guys started decorating for the holiday’s?

Décor Spritz: I like to decorate smart meaning I choose pieces that can last for a few months, I don’t like to buy anything that is too particular to the holiday ie. I don’t own anything that says happy Halloween, instead it might say happy fall, no ghost or goblins for me but a few wicker pumpkins and a wooden scarecrow. I’m not a big fan of decorating with red and green because as soon as Christmas is over I’m over it. When I do I tend to keep it small so it can be easily removed from the scene without feeling too empty. I like silver and blue for the Christmas tree, if I could help it my garland would be white but for the sake of saving some simoleons I didn’t purchase new garland this year. I like classic colors brown, cream, taupe, black & white and then adding a splash of color here and there. I don’t do much for Spring and Summer but change out my fake flowers from time to time, and of course the towels in the bathroom and bed spread annnnd curtains….. sometimes.

Hope you enjoy! I would love to hear some feedback from you guys! Any questions about decorating on a budget feel free to send me an e-mail glitzyspritzer@live.com

DIY {Tiffany’s Present} Wall Decor

Although all my DIY’s will forever hold a special place in my heart this one is just a spritz above the rest! Not sure if you’ve seen or heard about her or her blog but Carly Cristman is one of my favorite fashionistas/You Tubers out there. Not only is she a girl after my own heart but her style is phenomenal when it comes to fashion and decor && umm and we both have a gross obsession for wine soooo we’re basically twins. Okay creepy rant over anyways I actually started this DIY a few weeks ago but when I saw her Apartment Room Tour I was inspired to finish up my paintings asap. Although these aren’t Tiffany boxes nor are they going on my Christmas tree they are still festive! They make a nice addition to my collage wall and thanks to Carly’s tasteful style I realized they were perfect for Christmas decor for the next few weeks as well!

20131214-231222.jpg

If you are a painter this is fairly easy, if not practice shading with paint on a piece of paper. I used acrylic paint so I could build texture however watercolor would be suitable as well. Since paint is forever I didn’t want to mess anything up so I did draw an outline prior to painting, I didn’t follow it sketch for sketch but you get the idea!

Materials:
Small Canvas (3)
White, blue, yellow and black paint
Paintbrushes
Wall stickies (or something to mount paintings to your wall)

Yellow and blue make green add a bit more blue then use ALOT of white to create this Tiffany blue color. {Robin egg}

To create shading for the ribbon and bow mix a dab of black with some white to create an off white/grey color. Create lines around the knot of the bow for “wrinkles”.

DIY Mean Girls Shirt (YCSWU)

So I have to admit if I were to do this again, I would either free hand it or use different letters ( I would use different letters fa sho!) I didn’t really like how it turned out but like all my DIY’s I do then once and usually on film so what you see is what you get!
IMG_1512

Materials:
Fabric Paint $2.50
Paint Brush
Stencils $4.00
Shirt  $9.99 (40% off at JoAnns fabric) sooo $6 ish.

IMG_1516

It’s easier to cut the stencils out for this one and set up your words.

IMG_1520

IMG_1521

If you make a mistake like I did here, have no fear nothing a little water, soap and a blow dryer can’t fix!

IMG_1524

I still didn’t bring the “sit” in close enough but eh. Use your paint brush to clean up the corners of the lettering, add more paint if needed. I did about 4 coats.

IMG_1536

End result, a little messy still but still fetch! I got a long sleeve shirt since it’s getting cold here, but the tank tops I’ve seen for available for purchase are really cute too! I might make one this Summer.

DIY Chanel Burlap Tote

SOooooOo I found this picture online literally like 5 years ago, I saved the pic on my phone and transferred it through the years of technology, the picture below literally went from my HP touch to my blackberry to my iphone and now it’s here on my blog! Much like everything else somewhat fashionable I thought… “I could make that!” So I did. :

fake chanel 2

Then I goggled this to see if anyone else has made this so I could possibly link back to their blog or something but I didn’t really find anything other than this website selling this DIY for $25 (click picture for link). Personally I like the first picture better. But hey why pay $25 when you can make your own and add your own personal touches for dun dun dun dun under $10 dollars dollhairs $7.49 to be exact.

$25

What you will need:

chanel-icon Paintbrushes: varying size pack-Not sure I’ve had these forever
chanel-iconPencil
chanel-iconTote bag: $4.99 at Joannes fabric. And I got 40% off so it was more like $5.00 to makes this
chanel-iconFabric Paint: $2.50 at Joannes fabric
chanel-icon Eyeballs

Use a ruler your eyeballs to measure out the distance of the letters, size them up to leave enough room for the Chanel logo at the top.

IMG_1810

Go over your pencil sketch with the fabric paint, use your paintbrush to spread the paint out and to create that unfinished look use a wider brush for the ends of the C’s. I added little globs to the end of each point of my “FAKE” however to get a more unfinished look takes just one clean upward stroke of the paintbrush.

This is a little tricky because there is no going back after flicking your brush up.I did this all in one sitting and it took about 15 minutes, although the paint does dry pretty fast (not superman fast) be careful of smudging while you are working on other letters. I recommend painting the C’s first then moving down to the FAKE.

IMG_1823

Here is the end result!

IMG_1850

So fetch. I’m actually thinking of gluing burlap string to the handles but I thought I would use it like this for a little before altering the look…. Maybe I’ll spice it up this summer.

December is here!

Boy how time flies. I never really understood what that meant when my mother said it… I mean she said it all the time, that was usually followed by a pat on the head. Although I currently have no children of my own, I see how much I’ve grown over the past year. This time last year I was in boot camp for the National Guard, hating my life freezing and somewhat starving haha… it wasn’t that bad but this workout enthusiast, fashionista girl has many interest and that was just another thing on my bucket list so I persevered.

So here’s to the end of November and the beginning of December. At the age of 24 I am thankful that I have been able to accomplish so much.  I’m so happy when I see others out there blogging because that means you’re not getting sucked into your nine to five job. We all have bills to pay but what makes paying those bills worthwhile is how you’re out living your life. Over the past 3 years after college I graduated with a BA in business and a minor in Human Resources, I got a job in my field, I joined the National Guard, came back from training got a promotion, bought a watered down version of my dream car, moved to a new city, finally acted on my love for fashion blogging turned reading blogs into creating my own, got brave enough to start a you tube channel  and started a business of my own! Sooo December is here meaning the new year is just around the corner I can’t wait for what’s next to come and I hope the rest of you are excited to continue living out your life as I am. Remember;

{If you don’t like where you are change it… you are not a tree}

This weekend I did a variety of things. I baked something from scratch for the FIRST TIME EVER & it actually tasted decent. {The boy and I are still here to tell the tale}. Despite my blog dedicated completely to fashion, decor and fitness I actually didn’t do much black Friday shopping. I bought some knee socks for $2.99 from shopko, and some faux leather gloves for my work Secret Santa. I bought some basics at H&M because once again I was able to get like a bajillion things for under $30. I hung out with some friends, ate a lot of food napped a lot {boy was I tired hungover} took a few pics for the STYLE BLOG and did a few DIY’s so here I am about to nerd it up via xbox with the lover for the rest of Sunday. You guys know so much about me it’s unreal. Love you though.

DIY Collage Wall {Part 1}

So I’ve seen this gorgeous little collection for a while now on Pinterest and I’ve just been gathering the items that I would need to make my own collage wall. To be honest this isn’t going to be the full tutorial because I haven’t finished collecting all the items I need to make this look exactly how I want but for now it serves as a great starting point!

Materials:
Picture Frames
Paint
Paint Brush
Spray Paint
Any other items you feel like hanging on your wall

IMG_1660

I got my frames from Walmart! At only $1.50-3.00 a piece you can’t go wrong.

IMG_1663

I removed the glass and backing.

IMG_1662

Keep them because they are perfect for diy decor and gifts! I stored mine for a later project which I’m sure I will blog about for all to see. 🙂

IMG_1666

Next I attempted to mix what I like to call the perfect Tiffany Blue. I used green and yellow then added white until he color was juuuust right. I haven’t done a bedroom room tour yet but my room is a mixture of taupe, purple, silver and cream. I thought the teal would add a splash of color. I know it sounds odd but I went for more of an elegant look. It’s really comforting because my faux fireplace and bookshelves are all ivory so the colors work well together.

IMG_1668 IMG_1669

I used about two coats of this color and let them dry. I didn’t paint the back because if you guys couldn’t tell by now I’m rather lazy I prefer the effortless way when it comes to fashion and decor. Where there is a shortcut I will find it.

IMG_1693

It’s not done yet but next I arranged the picture frames on my wall vertical and horizontal. Once I get more the look will be more complete. That’s it for now! Happy DIY-ing!
